Christmas is the season of giving, but when the surprise in that little box under the tree isn’t your cup of tea, what do you do?
Everyone has received a gift from a well-meaning relative that is just not right for them; hankies from Grandma, socks, the infamous soap-on-a-rope, perfume that makes you sneeze, socks, a pot plant that you know you’ll be consigning to a slow and painful death, socks…
There are several different things you can do with unwanted gifts:
Hire a storage shed that you will fill slowly over the next 30 years.
Re-gift: making sure you don’t accidently give your unwanted gift to the original gifter.
Donate: Op-shops around the country will be happy to take unwanted gifts off your hands. What you think is hideous maybe be perfect for the next person who sees it. Op-shops are usually run by charities, so you can feel good about your sacrifice.
Swop: get your friends together with their unwanted treasures and swop
Sell: Trade-me can be your friend Repurpose: Turn an unwanted floral t-shirt into a lovely cushion cover. If you found a Village Jeweller box under your tree, but what is inside does not quite fit, bring it back to us. We can make small modifications to have it fittingperfectly. If you wanted emeralds and received sapphires, you can bring the piece back in-store and exchange it for credit so you can purchase something else.
If you have received jewellery that didn’t come from us, we may be able to repair or modify it for you. This depends on the quality of the item.
Pop into Village Jeweller in Howick and we can take a look and let you know. We promise never to tell where the wrong gift has disappeared to.
